Daytona Beach — Not a Dog Beach
As much as I love Daytona Beach there is 1 thing I would change if I were Queen for a day… I would have a dog beach. I would have a small area of the no drive section as a place for man’s best friend to hang out and play in the waves with his family.
I understand all of the problems that could occur. Dog fights, dog mess on the beach, dogs getting loose on the beach, etc, etc, etc…
My greates concern would be stupid people who do not bring fresh water or God Forbid, leave their dogs in the parked car… (OMFG!!!) Being a dog lover — it would be nice to see the occasional dog hanging out and enjoying the beach. Knowing how much the beach patrol loves to write tickets allowing a dog park would give them brand new opportunities !!
Thankfully there are 2 places fairly close to Daytona that will allow dogs. ::
Smyrna Dunes Park and Lighthouse Point (New Smyrna Beach)
Flagler Beach also allows dogs at both locations dogs are allowed year round, but must be leashed. For more information see this webpage::

I am in a sentimental dog mood today after listening to Marley & Me. So I’ll share a few pictures of my dogs…enjoying the water.
This is Gunnar, our German Shepard. He is 6 years old and he is the perfect family dog. He is loyal and protective and a wonderful companion.
This is Kahn, our Cane Corso. This is a fairly new breed in the US, it is an Italian Mastiff. They tend to be emotional like mastiffs and quite playful.
This is Dozer, our rescue dog. We just got him several weeks before Christmas and he is awesome and is one of those dogs that is well behaved and really tries to please you. The family that gave him up must have been heart broken, cause he is lovable as a dog can be.
Here are Gunnar and Khan at the park across the street from my house. It becomes a “dog park” at about 8AM each morning.
Here are the same 2 at Apple Canyon Lake in Apple River Illinois where our cabin is. Hopefully Dozer will like the water…
We are definitely a water family !!

Hi Renata
Really enjoyed the pictures of your dogs – always read your reviews on the Daytona site on trip advisor. We bring our Wheaton with us from January to April – I agree – wish we could take her on the beach – she would love that run – sometimes we sneak out late at night – under cover of the night sky – and let her run.
Just to let you know that you can bring your dogs to the park at Ponce Inlet – they allow them on the beach by the rocks – not a very large space – but room by the picnic tables to enjoy an afternoon picnic and relax with your pooch.
Now that I found your site – will check in from time to time.
